Seeing these two holding onto each other always made me giggle. Something about their friendship comforted me. One day in August 2022, I sent a photograph of the two to a man I had been seeing, but the situationship was falling apart. He was going through a hard time, so I tried to keep things light. Accompanying the picture, I said: “Hang on! You’ve got this!” or something of the like. He never responded. Months went by. Everytime I walked by these two friends, I remembered that unreciprocated gesture of communication. But, one day, while out on one of my walks, I noticed that Woody had disappeared. Buzz was now solo, without a hand to hang onto, to hold. Perhaps he was relieved. Maybe now he could focus on himself instead of spending his energy trying to keep his friend from falling. Buzz seemed incredibly lonely to me, but maybe that’s just my projection.
